A Campaign’s rulebook or set of Character Skills is a key driver to the player’s engagement and it’s important that updates can be made to add, change, and delete skills as the game evolves.
LARP Portal is designed to accommodate complex game rules without requiring customization in order to offer a logistics solution that does not require a game to have a resident database engineer on staff or to manage in spreadsheets as a backup plan because they cannot afford the alternative.
Because of the complexity of the Character Skills Module logic, updates are managed by LARP Portal staff with the exception of simple description and skill type changes enabled last year.
We are pleased to provide a long-anticipated feature for staff; the ability to self-maintain skills at the node level, the place where the skill appears in the skill tree.
Staff with the role of “Logistics: Skill Updates” can do the following in the Campaign> Set-up > Modify Skills Module:
Select the skill from the list on the left that is a replica of the skill tree. It will populate the existing information for the master skill in the top section and node level. Master Skill Level:
Any update to the Master level will make the change for every node. Changes to the node level are made to just the place in the tree selected. For instance, if there’s a skill called Mighty Blow that costs 3 for fighters, 4 for rogues and 6 for casters, this allows you to change the descriptions for all three at once (master level), but maintain the costs separately at the nodes where it appears in three separate places.
LARP Portal will continue to support all Campaigns for major rewrites of rules up to 1 time per year and for additions of new skills.
