LARP Resources - New to LARP Portal

The LARP Showcase section of our newsletter focuses on content and activities that are included in our LARP Resources on the public pages. In this episode, we have a checklist for players new to LARP Portal.

It’s a great time of year to try out new LARPs, and it looks like many are doing just that based on the hundreds of searches done each week. If you have selected a new game and are new to LARP Portal, we have some tips just for you.

Module	Description
PLAYER Profile	The Player Profile is all about you personally. As a bare minimum, we recommend that you add Emergency Contact Info so that staff will know who to contact in case something happens at an event and to upload a picture to help staff get to know you. Every game that you play will have access to this information.
PLAYER Preferences	We recommend setting up the notifications you want to receive by either email or text. You can mix and match and hand-pick which ones you want. It's a great way to get key notifications and reminders. You'll have to set up your cell number in the profile if you want texts.
PLAYER Medical Info	If you have medical conditions, allergies, or limitations that you want game runners to know about, this is the place to fill that in. You can choose to show each of these individually to staff, print on your character card or not. And of course it's not required.
CHARACTER Add a New Character	If you're going to NPC, then you can go on to the next section. If you're a PC, then you'll need to add at least a character header, even if the name is a placeholder. You can change that later, but you need a character before you can register to play. Add a New Character: ● Create a new character. ● Pick the campaign from the dropdown list. ● Put a name in the Character Name box. You can change it later if you don't have your character name yet. ● Put something descriptive of this character in the Skill Set Name (e.g., if your character name is Bob, put something like Bob primary or Bob main build). ● Leave the Skill Set Type as Primary.
CAMPAIGN Register for Event	Here are some helpful pointers when registering for events: Go to Campaigns > Events > Register for Event ● Pick the event from the list of event dates. ● Pick the role for that event (PC, NPC, staff). ● PCs: These are helpful but not required items. ● Pick the character that you are playing. ● Tell us if you are coming for the full event. ● Tell us how you intend to pay. ● Add any comments to registration staff. ● NPC and Staff. ● Tell us where you want your Event, clean-up, and PEL points to go. It will happen faster. ● Full or Partial Event? ● Add any comments you want to send to staff.
